Tail's Editor Can Now Do Objects!
08-22-2009 by Johnny L. de Alba

Calm down Johnny, take deep slow breaths, do not get tempted into making an Extreme version of Ecco the Dolphin...Too late!

Tails announced some good news today, his editor can now place objects and set their various properties. This means one could create a Pterodactyl that hovers in the water or Dolphins that can be attacked.

The editor is an advanced tool, so if you are planning on using it, you'll have to understand what number represents what object. The editor cannot display the object, only the properties that represent the object.

If you right click an object in Home Bay and modify it's object ID to 4E, you just changed that object into a Vortex Drone. Since Home Bay doesn't have the correct palette to display Vortex Drones they appear orange. Adding new objects instead of modifying existing ones could cause the game to crash.

Changing an object is not the only thing this editor can do, you can also set various properties associated with the object like it's appearance and how it reacts to Ecco.

The barriers that create solidity for rocks and walls are objects and can be removed. I took advantage of this by creating a path in Home Bay to the Home Bay that appears after the storm. When you activate the storm you are actually teleported to another Home Bay without all the creatures.

If you got any questions about this editor check out the DARK SEA or Arkonviox.com forums and ask any questions you may have. We'd prefer you use the Arkonviox.com forums since it is not filled with so much spam, I'd be happy to ask Tails any question you may have on your behalf.
