Kolibri was a game released for the Sega 32X where the player took control of a humming bird. The game was created by Ed Annunziatta and many of the original developers of Ecco the Dolphin. As Kolibri your goal is to kill as many aliens and bugs as possible before advancing to the next stage. Killing the enemies can cause a variety of events to happen such as flowers to blossom or fellow humming birds to arrive and feast.
The story of Kolibri involves a magical crystal that fell from the sky bringing life and an opposing crystal that's draining it. In a desperate attempt to save itself, the life bearing crystal empowers Kolibri to save the planet before its life force is sucked dry.
Kolibri is a lot like Ecco the Dolphin where you play as an animal whose world is threatened by an alien force and crystals aid you along your journey. Zsolt, who designed the graphics for Ecco, went all out making the visuals beautiful. It would of been hard to imagine what he would of done for an Ecco the Dolphin 3.
Overall Kolibri is fun to play and the graphics and music are stunning, but I was a little disappointed with the storyline. The plot is a lot like pac-man where the goal is to kill evil and win. When it all comes down to it that's pretty much what all games are about but I would have liked a little more back story or power ups or even time travel! Something, anything but mindlessly working your way through a bee hive, killing bees.
For those of you who want to play the game and cheat at the same time there is a level select menu. To enable it Hold A and press LEFT, RIGHT then release A, then Hold B and press DOWN, RIGHT, release B and Hold C and press DOWN, UP then release C.
