Despite what others say about its quality, I liked the Ecco the Dolphin movie found in the PC and Sega CD versions. It's too bad we never got to see Ecco 2 as a CGI, that was the best Ecco out of the whole series.
The Ecco the Dolphin movie had a lot of deleted scenes that would eventually be used for the Sega Saturn version and 32X title sequence. Looking at the movie years after it was created, the graphics were primitive compared to Ecco, Defender of the Future but at least the story was a lot better.
Like the Game Gear version, the movie shows Ecco defeating the past Asterite and traveling to the present, returning the globe to the modern Asterite. This was a story element that should have been in the Sega Genesis version that I felt it lacked.
I never imagined the machine actually being on the Vortex planet until I watched this movie and it confirmed Ecco traveled there. Since the original Ecco the Dolphin for Sega Genesis was very hard, I suggest playing the Game Gear version first or watching this movie and playing the second Sega Genesis version. Just don't play the Game Gear version of Ecco 2: The Tides of Time, trust me I don't even get whats going on in that game.
